About
National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP)
The National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India in 2007-08, during the 11th Five-year plan with the Following Objectives
- To bring about greater awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and about the Tobacco Control Laws
- Reduce the Production and Supply of Tobacco Products
- Help the people to Quit Tobacco use.
- To facilitate effective implementation of the Tobacco Control Laws “The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003” (COTPA).
NTCP Programme is implemented through 3 tier Structure
- National Tobacco Control Cell
- State Tobacco Control Cell
- District Tobacco Control Cell
Key Objectives of District Tobacco Control Cell:
- Training of Key Stakeholders: Health and Social worker, NGO’s School Teachers, Law Enforcers
- IEC – Information, Education, Communication
- School Program
- Monitoring of Tobacco Control Laws
- Setting-up & strengthening of Cessation facilities
- Co-ordination with different departments for the effective implementation of Tobacco control Laws
